Traceroute
The most common way is to use the Trace Route Command on the command line (DOS) interface of Windows.
Say you want to trace the route that your communications follows to retrieve information from the Google server. You would simple open the command interface and type:
tracert www.google.com
You would then see a full report of the route:
As you can see, this also is a method to reveal the IP address of any domain. You can see that the IP Address for Google that my browser is directed to is: 74.125.43.05
